The Reformation of a Legendary Rockabilly, Surf, Cow-Punk band!
Band History
Founded by Philip Tague IV (Phil Deville). Lance Bakemeyer (Lance Romance) and Mike Voelker (Lightning Boy) in 1988, Mustang Lightning played Rockabilly, Surf, Cow-Punk and Blues covers and originals from 1988 to 1993 in Denver. Mustang Lightning’s initial release in was in 1989,”Texas Voodoo Surf”.
“Guitaro Loco” an all instrumental “Surf ” CD was released in 1991.
Mustang Lightning in 1993 decided to move to New Orleans, Louisiana. They recorded an additional 2 CD’s in New Orleans, but the Record label they were on went out of business.
Phil DeVille then went on to tour with Cowboy Mouth and several other well known bands and artists. Lance & Phil reconnected in 2009 with the 20 year anniversary of the Texas Voodoo Surf CD. They then went on to record “Texas Radio” in 2010.
In 2014, Phil Deville recorded an instrumental Surf guitar album called “Chopper Surf Guitar Club”.
With the passing of the founder Philip Tague IV (Phil DeVille) on June 29, 2019, a Celebration of Life was organized for the Denver music scene at the Skylark Lounge – a favorite gigging spot for Mustang Lightning. Phil’s nephew and guitar protege, Joshua Harris (Josh Wah), contacted the remaining original band mates Lance Bakemeyer (Lance Romance), Mike Voelker (Lightning Boy) – along with local drummer Mike Minnick (Mad Dog Mike) and former Producer/Manager Aaron Swiley to help play the original music of Mustang Lightning in honor of Phil at his Celebration of Life. After performing the set in a stunning tribute, Lance Romance, Josh Wah and Mad Dog Mike agreed to reform Mustang Lightning in it’s original form as a trio. Ready to emerge in 2020 and rock the city of Denver once more!
2020 – Return of Mustang Lightning
Both Texas Voodoo Surf and Guitaro Loco will be remixed/remastered by Josh and Lance, and will be available for re-release on Spotify, Apple Music, and CD Baby (limited number of CD’s). The band will re-emerge in the live scene, dates to be announced.
